In the summer, we like to be near water because it's so hot. There's a nice lake a few miles out of Winthrop called Pearrigan Lake. It's a great place for kids. Patterson Lake on the road up to Sun Mountain Lodge is also nice. You can rent row boats there.

Are you up for something more exciting? Try rafting down the Methow. We took our kids the first time when they were about five and seven. Osprey River Adventures is a experienced and reliable company.

We also know of a great swimming hole with two back-currents that carry you back to the top of the rapids.
